String News Guidelines for Readers and Sources
Thesis
Social media has accelerated the amount of information shared between people,
however, it has also accelerated the ubiquity of misinformation and disinformation. We need to
create
technology that prioritizes information from credible news sources, not just content that confirms
user
biases.
We believe that sharing news more frequently and engaging with new sources leads to more informed
and
productive dialogue. We wanted to make the experience for getting news and sharing news extremely
simple
and convenient - and we believe this will help create more social cohesion.
300K+ News Sources
We used a combination of APIs, scrapers, and RSS feeds to aggregate news from over 300,000 sources on the web from newspapers of record to local guides in Gainesville.
User Profiles for News
Allowed users to create dedicated pages for news. This offered a clean environment to show others what you were reading, absent memes, cat videos, and non-news.
Ads
Under 30 second ads designed for pacing and simplicity.
